Finance Pay-it-Forward Scholarship

This initiative supports the Finance Pay-It-Forward Scholarship Endowment. The purpose of the scholarship is to attract and retain students who exhibit excellence with academics and demonstrate financial need, an intent to pay-it-forward, and desire for mentorship. The Department of Finance and Business Law established the scholarship endowment in 2020 with the support of departmental Executive Advisory Board and is currently awarding two students a year. Increasing the funds in the endowment will allow the department to offer scholarships to more students.

Recipient Kelly Johnson ('21) (pictured above) is currently working as an Investment Banking Analyst at Deutsche Bank in New York City, NY. According to Kelly, "This grant helped ease the cost of tuition motivating me to excel in and out of the classroom. Through this grant, I was provided mentorship which was instrumental in navigating opportunities throughout my time at JMU and post-graduation. This enabled me to start to leave my mark at JMU as I founded the Women in Business student organization. Today, I strive to continue to pay it forward and help out fellow Dukes."
