In 2019, College Factual named James Madison University the best college in the United States for providing quality education to veterans. This is not only a great honor; it is an example of the great work of a two staff members in the Office of the Registrar and a team of volunteers dedicated to this population. This honor, along with some amazing strides including a Veterans Lounge, have all occurred without any full time, dedicated staff working on behalf of our Veteran, Dependent, and Active Military Students.

In the Fall of 2021 the Veteran Scholar Task Force approached Student Affairs and requested that we take the lead on supporting this community. We are at the beginning of this effort and transition and will plan to take over leadership and support of this community in the Spring of 2022. 

JMU has the opportunity to be of service to those who have served and become the model of a veteran friendly campus. We can become a destination for Veterans and can live the Being the Change motto through our recruitment, enrollment, financial support, and graduation of Veteran, Dependent, and Active Military Students.
