Madison Community Consultants

The mission of the School of Professional & Continuing Education (SPCE) is to advance JMU’s vision by responding to individual, business, and community needs through transformative education programs and experiences. In support of that mission, we are preparing to launch Project THRIVE: a facilitated curriculum created directly in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and designed to help cohorts of local businesses and nonprofits move from surviving to thriving. Upon completion of the program and with Madison Trust support, Project THRIVE participants will have the opportunity to work with an interdisciplinary team of JMU graduate and undergraduate students through a new program called Madison Community Consultants. This equally important and parallel program will train students to use relevant skills in research, teamwork & collaboration, and operational and project management to assist local businesses and nonprofits.

“Student interest in becoming a Madison Community Consultant was impressive, and 12 were selected,” commented project sponsor Nicholas J. Swartz, Ph.D. “We were about one month behind due to COVID-19, but we hit the ground running in October.”
